■ ‘국익과 평화’를 나침반 삼아 안보와 경제의 미래를 연 정상외교를 환영합니다

이재명 대통령은 유엔 총회 참석을 계기로 가진 한·미, 한·호주 정상회담에서 실질적인 안보와 경제 성과를 거두었습니다.

한·미 정상회담을 통해 양국은 전략투자 논의의 진전을 확인하는 한편, 핵추진잠수함 연료 및 농축·재처리, 조선 협력, 전작권 전환 등 동맹을 한 단계 도약시킬 핵심 안보 현안들의 후속 동력을 확보했습니다. 특히 양 정상이 ‘피스메이커-페이스메이커’로서 대북 대화의 물꼬를 트기로 뜻을 모은 것은 한반도 긴장 완화의 전기가 될 것입니다. 한·호주 정상회담 역시 에너지 공급망을 넘어 핵심 광물, 방산 협력을 아우르는 전략적 연대를 한층 단단히 다졌습니다.

이번 양자 정상외교는 이념에 얽매이지 않고 ‘국익과 평화’를 나침반 삼은 실용외교의 진면목을 보여주었습니다. 글로벌 복합 위기 속에서 안보와 경제의 미래 먹거리를 동시에 확보했다는 점에서 그 의의가 큽니다.

더불어민주당은 이번 정상외교의 성과가 국민의 삶과 국가 경쟁력 강화로 이어질 수 있도록 뒷받침하겠습니다. 양국 간 합의된 핵심 과제들의 후속 조치를 국회 차원에서 면밀히 점검하고 제도화하는 한편, 적극적인 의원외교를 통해 대한민국의 외교적 지평을 넓히는 데에도 힘을 보태겠습니다.

■ Democratic Party Welcomes Summit Diplomacy Guided by ‘National Interest and Peace’, Opening a New Future for Korea's Security and Economy

On the occasion of the UN General Assembly, President Lee Jae-myung delivered concrete gains in both security and the economy through his summits with the United States and Australia.

At the Korea–U.S. summit, the two leaders welcomed progress in talks on strategic investment and generated momentum for follow-up discussions on key security issues that will take the alliance to the next level, including fuel for nuclear-powered submarines, uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing, shipbuilding cooperation, and the transfer of wartime operational control(OPCON). In particular, their agreement to act as ‘peacemaker- pacemaker’ in opening the door to dialogue with North Korea is expected to serve as a catalyst for easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The Korea–Australia summit likewise strengthened the strategic solidarity between the two countries, extending it beyond energy supply chains to critical minerals and defense industry cooperation.

These bilateral summits showed pragmatic diplomacy at its best: free from ideology and guided by the compass of national interest and peace. Their significance lies in securing future growth engines for both our security and our economy amid a convergence of global crises.

The Democratic Party of Korea will work to ensure that the outcomes of these summits translate into better lives for our people and a more competitive nation. At the National Assembly, we will closely monitor follow-up measures on the key agreements and put them on a solid institutional footing, while actively engaging in parliamentary diplomacy to broaden Korea's diplomatic horizons.
