■ 오르타 동티모르 대통령의 첫 공식 방한을 환영하며, 평화와 민주주의로 맺은 우정이 더 큰 협력으로 이어지기를 기대합니다

더불어민주당은 조제 하무스 오르타 동티모르 대통령의 첫 공식 방한을 진심으로 환영합니다. 이번 방한은 2002년 수교 이후 동티모르 정상이 양자 차원에서 한국을 공식 방문한 첫 사례입니다. 오늘 열린 이재명 대통령과 오르타 대통령의 정상회담은 내년 수교 25주년을 앞두고 양국 관계를 한층 깊게 하는 뜻깊은 자리가 되었습니다.

양국은 1999년 상록수부대의 유엔 평화유지활동을 출발점으로 평화와 민주주의라는 공동의 가치 위에서 우정을 쌓아왔습니다. 1996년 노벨평화상 수상자인 오르타 대통령은 2000년 김대중 전 대통령을 노벨평화상 후보로 추천한 한국의 오랜 친구입니다. 오늘 공동언론발표에서 '빛의 혁명'을 노벨평화상 후보로 적극 추천하겠다고 밝힌 것은 우리 국민이 지켜낸 민주주의가 국제사회에서 인정받고 있음을 보여줍니다.

이번 회담에서 양 정상은 지식재산, 기후변화, 녹색경제 등 미래 분야 협력과 개발협력 강화, 초국가범죄 공동 대응, 노동·교육 협력 내실화, 정례 협의체 신설에 뜻을 모았습니다. 특히 동티모르 노동자들이 한국에서 안전하게 생활할 수 있도록 함께 노력하기로 한 것은 사람 중심 협력의 의미 있는 합의입니다.

지난해 아세안의 11번째 회원국이 된 동티모르는 2029년 아세안 의장국을 맡습니다. 이번 회담이 한-아세안 협력과 우리의 아세안 외교를 한층 확대하는 계기가 되기를 기대합니다.

더불어민주당은 이번 정상회담의 성과가 실질적인 결실로 이어질 수 있도록 국회 차원의 노력을 다하겠습니다.

■ Welcoming President Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste on His First Official Visit to Korea: May a Friendship Forged in Peace and Democracy Grow into Even Greater Cooperation

The Democratic Party of Korea warmly welcomes President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste on his first official visit to Korea. This is the first official bilateral visit by a Timorese head of state since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2002. Today’s summit between President Lee Jae Myung and President Ramos-Horta, held ahead of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, was a meaningful occasion that brought our two nations even closer.

Our friendship began in 1999 with the UN peacekeeping mission of Korea’s Evergreen Unit, and has since grown upon the shared values of peace and democracy. President Ramos-Horta, laureate of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize, is a longstanding friend of Korea who nominated the late President Kim Dae-jung for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2000. His announcement at today’s joint press conference that he will actively nominate the ‘Revolution of Light’ for the Nobel Peace Prize stands as a testament to the international recognition of the democracy our people have defended.

At the summit, the two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in forward-looking fields such as intellectual property, climate change, and the green economy; strengthen development cooperation; jointly combat transnational crime; enhance labor and education cooperation; and establish a regular bilateral consultative mechanism. Of particular significance is their commitment to work together to ensure that Timorese workers can live safely in Korea,  a meaningful agreement that places people at the heart of our partnership.

Having become the 11th member of ASEAN last year, Timor-Leste will assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2029. We hope this summit will serve as an opportunity to further broaden Korea-ASEAN cooperation and Korea’s diplomacy with ASEAN.

The Democratic Party of Korea will make every effort in the National Assembly to ensure that the achievements of this summit bear tangible fruit.
