■ 국회가 통과시킨 법, 뉴욕에서 평가받았습니다

이재명 대통령이 23일(현지시간) 뉴욕에서 열린 '대한민국 투자 서밋 2026'에 참석했습니다. 지난해 같은 자리에서 한국 주식시장의 재평가 가능성이 크다고 말했고, 1년 만에 다시 그 자리에 섰습니다. 대통령은 그 무렵 투자를 결정한 이들은 상당한 평가액 증가를 보았을 것이라며, 대한민국의 미래 투자에 동참해 달라고 요청했습니다.

근거는 숫자였습니다. 올해 6월 월간 수출액이 사상 처음 1천억 달러를 넘어섰고, 주요 글로벌 기관들은 올해 성장률 전망을 3% 후반 이상으로 잇달아 올렸습니다.

대통령은 반도체와 AI 경쟁력을 키우는 '3대 메가프로젝트', 소형모듈원자로와 핵융합, 재생에너지를 아우르는 '7 SEED' 프로젝트를 소개했습니다. 자본시장 개혁의 성과도 설명했습니다. 이사의 주주 충실 의무와 자사주 원칙적 소각을 담은 세 차례의 상법 개정, 그리고 외환시장의 24시간 거래 체계 전환입니다.

투자자들의 반응도 이어졌습니다. 참석자들은 외환시장 접근성 개선을 기대했고, 기업 지배구조 개선과 주주가치 제고가 한국 시장의 매력을 높이고 있다고 짚었습니다. 특히 한국 정부 정책의 일관성과 실행력을 높이 평가했습니다.

이 자리에는 래리 핑크 블랙록 회장, 티모시 가이트너 워버그핀커스 회장을 비롯한 미국 금융계 인사 12명과 삼성바이오로직스, SK, 현대자동차그룹, 한화오션, 두산에너빌리티 등 우리 기업 대표들, 모두 30여 명이 함께했습니다. 대통령 혼자 나선 자리가 아니었습니다.

대통령은 추격경제에서 벗어나 세계경제를 선도하는 국가로 변모하겠다고 했습니다. 그 변화의 한 축은 국회에서 만들어졌습니다. 상법 개정은 국회가 통과시킨 법이고, 어제 뉴욕에서는 그 법이 만들어낸 시장의 변화가 글로벌 투자자들의 평가를 받았습니다. 더불어민주당은 그 평가가 내년에도 이어지도록 제 몫을 다하겠습니다.

■ Passed in the National Assembly, Weighed in New York

On September 23, President Lee Jae Myung took part in the Korea Investment Summit 2026 in New York. A year ago, at the same summit, he said there was a strong chance that Korea's equity market would be repriced. This year he returned. Those who decided then to invest would have seen a considerable gain in value, he told them, and he called on those present to invest in Korea's future.

The case rested on numbers. In June this year, Korea's monthly exports passed one hundred billion dollars for the first time on record, and global institutions have been raising their growth forecasts for Korea, one after another, into the high three percent range.

The President set out the "three megaprojects" to strengthen competitiveness in semiconductors and AI, and the "7 SEED" project spanning small modular reactors, nuclear fusion and renewable energy. He also described what capital market reform has delivered: three successive revisions of the Commercial Act, introducing directors' fiduciary duty to shareholders and the redemption of treasury shares as a matter of principle, and the move to round-the-clock trading in the foreign exchange market.

The investors responded. They said they expect improved access to Korea's foreign exchange market, and noted that better corporate governance and stronger shareholder value are making the Korean market more attractive. Above all, they praised the consistency and follow-through of Korean government policy.

Twelve figures from American finance were present, among them Larry Fink, Chairman of BlackRock, and Timothy Geithner, Chairman of Warburg Pincus, together with executives from Samsung Biologics, SK, Hyundai Motor Group, Hanwha Ocean and Doosan Enerbility — some thirty people in all. The President did not go alone.

Korea, he said, will move beyond a catch-up economy to become one that leads the world. Part of that change was made in the National Assembly. The revisions to the Commercial Act are laws the Assembly passed, and in New York yesterday the changes those laws produced in the market were weighed by global investors. The Democratic Party of Korea will do its part to ensure that this assessment continues into next year.
